Recently a scam came to light in this country which involved people receiving a phone call telling them they had won a top prize in a Canadian lottery. Even when the people receiving the calls said that they had not entered such a lottery they were informed that indeed they had, and that they were eligible for hundreds of thousands of pounds in cash. However, due to some glitch in foreign currency transfer, in order to receive the prize, they would have to make a payment, sometimes totaling several thousand pounds, into a bank account, and on receipt of said payment, they would receive the sum of money they had won. And then after a couple of weeks, these same people would be informed that there had been a problem, and that they would have to make a further payment, and so it would go on until eventually all contact ceased and the given contact number for enquiries became unavailable. Some of the people who fell for this scam had even re-mortgaged their houses in order to make these payments, only to be left thousands of pounds in debt with nothing to show for it. So, why is it that people are so gullable and fall for these scams? After all, in my view anything that involves me paying out money has to be some kind of scam or other, or at least not worth my while, if it costs me, then I’m not interested. But why is it, that people are so so gullable that they think that these things are real? Or is it just greed that leads them to think they’ll get the big prize if they pay out their life savings. In short, are you that gullable?

I hate getting those kinds of calls!!! Whenever I hear of anything to do with paying out some money, I never think it's worth my while to listen to them. I just politely, (sometimes) hang up the phone so they can call someone else!!! I don't know why anyone would get involved with those types of scams!!! In answer to your question, No, I am not that gullible!!!

you leave the reciever beside the speaker and turn the volume dial as far as possible then you choose a track say Antichrist Superstar and I guarantee they will never bother you again...smile

Why would y'all even waste y'all's time picking up the phone.? *smiles* As for me, I never pick it up and have set my ringer to as little rings as possible and have a short message on my answering machine. That way, since I can't read the visual caller ID, if I'm there and I recognize the voice as a friend, family member, or anyone else I regularly talk to, I pick it up right away when I can. But if it's a telemarketer, I feel like it's not even worth my time as it is usually a bunch of lies or something I'm not interested in.

Well as we were unfortunate enough to be born without an incredible psychic gift ,we need to pick it up, in order to find out who is calling...duh...

I said I use my answering machine for that, hello. That's why I said I leve it on as few rings as possible and leave a short message, a greeting message. That way when the person answers, obviously if I'm there, I can hear the voice and the words the person says. If it's a telemarketer, the one's I always hear from have a scrript they have to read from, so you can tell that just by the way they talk. If it's a friend or someone I know, they either don't or at least they won't sound as formal as a telemarketer would, aand therefore you would be abel to tell by how they talk. And of course if you're not there, you couldn't tick up your phone anyway. If you meant this problem to be more with cell phones, sorry, but I don't have one so couldn't think of a solution for that. But you could've mentioned that, alex, instead of being all smart aleky. Some people can't afford to be paying for a cell phone if you have one and are assuming that I do too, so there you go.

I do not have a mobile I sold it to a drug addict he was desperate, which was strange, as it is meant to be the other way around...we have an answering machine with a disturbing message from Gollum, that tends to put them off.
Though just for the crack we enjoy perforating the pests ear drums....

oooo I love Gollum!!! heheheeh I actually have caller ID on my home phone so I can usually screen my calls!!! If the caller is someone I don't know, then I let the machine pick it up. But sometimes, I pick it up for the hell of it and get disappointed again!!! heheheeh
